What do we look for?

 

Commitment

We’re looking for people that demonstrate a track record of passion and commitment to their personal interests outside of academics (financial as well as non-financial), and that we expect will take the most advantage of everything GUSIF has to offer.

Teamwork

We’re looking for people with great interpersonal and communication skills - people that can work with a diverse group of people in both small and large group contexts. They should also be people we see as capable of taking on future leadership within the Fund.

Analysis

GUSIF emphasizes intellectual curiosity and problem solving ability. We look for people who are able to ask the right questions and apply the knowledge they have acquired to new problems. We don’t expect you to have the answers, but we look for you to have an approach.


Our timeline.

We want to get to know you and give you the opportunity to get to know us. To that end, we offer numerous events and event types throughout the recruiting process.

Recruiting Timeline

  • Application Opens: August 23rd

  • Application Closes: September 10th at 11:59pm EST

  • First Round Interviews: Thursday, September 14th & Friday, September 15th

  • Final Round Interviews: Saturday, September 16th

Upcoming Events

  • GUSIF @ CAB Fair

    • Date & Time: Saturday, August 26th, 11:00am - 2:00pm, Copley Lawn.

    • Description: GUSIF Leadership will be providing information on the organization & recruiting process, as well as answer any and all questions from event participants. 

    • Sign-up: No need to sign up, just drop by anytime from 11:00am - 2:00pm.

  • MSAB Back to Business Fair

    • Date & Time: Tuesday, August 29th, 5:00pm - 7:00pm.

    • Description: MSB Club leadership will be providing information on their respective organizations and recruiting processes at the Back 2 Business event hosted by the McDonough School of Business. 

    • Sign-up: No need to sign up. Event will begin at 5:00pm with a presentation of all club opportunities, followed by a traditional fair at 6:00pm.

  • GUSIF Information Session

    • Date & Time: Thursday, August 31st, 8:00pm - 9:00pm, MSB 140.

    • Description: Event will consist of a brief presentation on the organization, followed by a panel of current GUSIF members, and open Q&A. Attendees are strongly encouraged to arrive on time.

    • Sign-up: No need to sign up.

  • Diversity Panel

    • Date & Time: TBD.

    • Description: Members within GUSIF will be sharing personal experiences of their time in GUSIF. The panel will be followed by an opportunity for attendees to get to know and chat with current GUSIF members.

    • Sign-up: No need to sign up.

  • GUSIF Coffee Chats

    • Date & Time: September 6th & September 7th, location will be given following sign-up.

    • Description: Coffee chats with current GUSIF members and leadership.

    • Sign-up: Sign up for one coffee chat here.

  • PM Social

    • Date & Time: September 8th, time and location are TBD.

    • Description: Join GUSIF’s Portfolio Managers for pizza and learn about their personal experiences of their time in GUSIF.

    • Sign-up: No need to sign up.

We want to help you succeed. We aim to be transparent with our process and provide the resources and information you need to be the best possible applicant.

The Application.

This is composed of a resume drop & short-answer portion. We don’t expect you to be a financial wizard or excel genius. Be human. Be authentic. We want to connect and get to know the real you.

Do I need to be in the MSB to join?

Not at all! We take members from all parts of campus - we cannot be successful without a diversity of backgrounds, interests, and knowledge-bases.

Do I have to have past finance/investing experience?

No, you do not. We look for commitment, teamwork, and analytical capabilities, none of which require past experience with finance or investing. Additionally, we provide all the resources and education necessary for you to succeed as a member in GUSIF, starting from the most basic concepts and working our way up to valuation and more.

Do I need to pursue a career in Finance to join?

While many of our members do pursue a career in Finance and many of our resources are geared towards supporting members pursuing this path, it is very much not the sole reason to join GUSIF nor is it at all required or expected of members. In effect, many of our current members are pursuing other paths, such as consulting or premed.
